| Brodies LLP attend Inward Programme
22nd April 2010
Twelve solicitors and staff from Brodies LLP attended an Inward Programme hosted at the Scottish Parliament by the Scottish Parliament & Business Exchange. The focus of the day was to help Brodies gain a greater understanding of the Scottish Parliament and how it interacts with the legal profession in Scotland.
The programme started with a welcome from Trish Godman MSP, in her role as a Deputy Presiding Officer for the Parliament.
The morning focused on how the Parliament itself works. Andrew Mylne, Clerk to the Justice Committee led a session on Parliament’s statutory context, the legislative process and the role and current business of the Justice Committee. The delegates then visited the Scottish Parliament Chamber in order to observe First Minister’s Questions.
The afternoon involved two sessions, firstly with Bill Aitken MSP who discussed his role as the convenor of the Justice Committee and James Kelly MSP who spoke about the role and responsibilities of a Member of the Scottish Parliament.
Speaking after the event Brodies Senior PR Manager, Andrew Gregory said:
"Relevant, practical and informative - SPBE's programme to introduce business organisations to the work of the Scottish Parliament is right on target. It's a useful and direct way to learn how and why laws are made and changed and what role business organisations can play in this important process.
“After a morning spent at the Scottish Parliament, with informal presentations by Clerks, MSPs, and Committee Conveners, and the spectacle of First Minister's Questions thrown in for good measure, the haar disappeared from Holyrood and the inner workings of the Scottish Parliament became much clearer."
